Records of the Kansas State Library, 1893 - [ongoing].

Much of the collection from the Kansas State Library consists of grant files awarded to and by the Library. The collection also includes extensive meeting minutes and board records, documenting policy and leadership of the Library as well as its actions to promote unity and professional development amongst libraries and librarians throughout the state. Other records from the State Library include subject files, financial materials, publications, correspondence, annual reports, and other such materials. Most of the records date from the latter half of the twentieth century.

The State Library of Kansas was created in 1861 and based on the Territorial Library, which was first organized in 1855. The Library Board of Trustees, which consisted of the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the State Auditor, supervised the original collections. Originally the library was located in the office of the State Auditor, who also served as the first State Librarian. A separate State Law Library was created in 1863 and was located in the office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court. ...
